Due to numerous interruptions in our regular schedule, we don't have any student bloggers this week. However, keep reading for some highlights of the students' learning!
Reading~ What was the author really trying to teach me? When I read two different books on the same topic, do the authors have different reasons for writing the books? Can we figure out what those reasons are by reading the text features? When we read a book about Tigers, is the main idea about tigers living in Indonesia? Is it about tigers eating pigs and having sharp claws? Or are these important details? Here is a sampling of some questions the Second Grade Readers have been answering and writing about. IMPRESSIVE! We'll be ending our unit soon with an 'I AM AN EXPERT' celebration, showcasing to our friends all we've learned about our topic! Writing~ In writing, the students have been hard at work on their informational pieces. One way to improve our writing is by writing strong beginnings. When you write an informational book there are so many ways to begin. Some of them include asking questions and keeping the reader in suspense, telling the reader exactly what will be included in each chapter or using your senses to elicit excitement about your topic. Whatever you do, the most important part about beginnings is to HOOK the reader! Math~ Next week we'll be starting our new unit on multiples of 100. This will include a full understanding of how the 3 numbers in a 3-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens and ones - better known as......PLACE VALUE! The students worked so hard on their STAR assessments. I'm so proud of their efforts. I hope they understand that all this hard work is going to pay off in so many ways! The most important of these being SELF-CONFIDENCE and learning how to PERSEVERE when work becomes challenging!
